Leland began piping when he was eight years old. In the fall of 2016, he joined the Rockville High School Pipe Band. Renamed the Maryland Youth Pipe Band, Leland currently serves as the band’s Pipe Sergeant. Leland began practicing with MacMillan-Birtles in 2017 and, under the school rule, competes with them during the summer season.

Outside of pipe bands, Leland’s musical interests include the Irish whistle, playing with his middle school Baroque recorder ensemble and attending summer pipe schools, such as Invermark.
